3 tips for boosting cbd levels in cannabis plant

Cannabis plant
In today’s article, we’re going to review how to increase the CBD level in our plants. Here are some very simple tips to help you increase the CBD levels in your next harvest of cannabis. If you have any tips that we haven’t covered in this article, please don’t hesitate to share them with us.

Choose the right variety If you want to produce a CBD-rich crop, it is very important to choose the right variety – using varieties known to be high in CBD is one of the easiest ways to get the results you are looking for. These days, popular seed banks offer several strains that are high in CBD and you can find most of them in our seed shop.

  • Protect your plants from diseases and parasites

Like any other plant, cannabis is susceptible to a variety of diseases and pests. If left unchecked, these pests can completely stunt the growth of the plant and eventually affect the potency of the harvest (as with high-THC strains). Therefore, it is of the utmost importance to keep an eye on the entire growth cycle of the plant and get rid of diseases and pests as soon as possible. Common cannabis pests and diseases include dust mites, spider mites, fungus on the head and roots, yellow spots on the leaves, whiteflies and tobacco mosaic virus.

Most of the latter can be avoided by keeping plants at the optimum temperature (18-28°C) and appropriate humidity (40-70%). Adequate lighting and good ventilation also help to reduce the heat and humidity in the growing space and are very important in preventing these threats.

Finally, you should also make sure that your growing space is always clean and sterile.

  • Harvest at the right time

When to harvest can have a significant impact on the cannabinoid levels in the finished product. The best way to choose the best time to harvest is to observe the trichomes of the plant. This can be done using a magnifying glass or loupe. In order to obtain a high concentration of THC, most trichomes should be harvested when they turn from translucent to creamy.

When it comes to CBD, on the other hand, there are mixed opinions. Unfortunately, there is very little official documentation on the harvesting of cannabis. Most growers would agree that CBD tends to reach its peak before THC, so it is better to harvest a little earlier; some CBD growers harvest as soon as the trichomes are partially “clouded”. Others wait much longer.

Please remember that these are only general rules. The best time to harvest will vary from strain to strain and depend on growing conditions; as you become more experienced in growing CBD strains, you will become more familiar with the differences between strains and the best time to harvest.

Theories about CBD increases

There are a number of theories about how to increase the amount of CBD in cannabis. Some growers believe that a combination of warm temperatures (both in the soil and in the grow room) and low rainfall can help to increase CBD levels at the next harvest. Unfortunately, there are no official studies to confirm whether this method is effective or not. However, if you feel free to try out these theories to see if they work for you, and share your results with us, the whole community can benefit.
